Nine Patch Instructions

This page contains the instructions for cutting and piecing a 6" Nine Patch Block.

1. Cut 3, 2.5" strips of plain fabric and 3, 2.5" strips of the patterned fabric. See Fig.1

2. Sew the strips together, alternating between patterned and plain fabric. Use a 1/4 inch seam. You should end up with two units, one made up of patterned, plain, patterned and a second strip of plain, patterned, plain. When the strips are sewn together, press the seems to the side. It is best to press the seams towards the darkest fabric. See Fig.2

3. Cut these units into 2.5" sections. See Fig.3

4. Piece these sections together. Use a 1/4 inch seam. See Fig. 4

5. When completed, press the blocks.
