Sitting Pretty

Pharaoh has made himself right at home with his cat run and the ledge that leads to it. We know that he likes the access to the outside but we never really knew how much until last week. Over the last couple of months, we have noticed that his back has been scraping on the cat flap when he goes out. He has to bend his back quite a bit to get out. So we decided to raise the cat flap up a couple of inches. This process took a couple of hours. During this time, he got quite distressed. I think he thought we were getting rid of his cat flap and he wouldn't be able to get out ever again! The poor boy was so worried he made himself sick.

We went out for tea and left him alone. The next morning we got lots of wake up cuddles. He realised that he could still get out and that in fact it was now easier to get out than before.

We've made a small modification to the cat run - we added an old metal shelf that my Dad had lying around. While he doesn't use it a great deal, it makes a nice spot for lounging in the afternoon sun! It also makes a good spy spot for looking at the three cats who live next door.

These cats, especially Oscar the male, are quite fond of walking along the tunnel and having a swipe at Pharaoh, who swipes back!

We are planning some extensions for the cat run. There is an old shed at the back of the yard just taking up room. We are going to rip some of the tin off the front and put mesh up. Then we will add a tunnel from the current cat cage to the extension. It will give the boy a bit more territory to explore!!
